Dressing up

Its culture day at school for Bobo, all the children will be dressing in their traditional clothes.
Her clothes are traditional clothes of the Al-Baha region, and of course some Rayhan (sweet Basil) in her headress.

We had a special Mothers day at Bobos school yesterday
When the mothers arrived at the school our children presented us with these lovely gifts

Decorations for the special day

there was fun and games, tea and croissants

It was a beautiful day

We were the last to leave

And when we got home the girls had planned this surprise for me with their Baba.

Light

If money were no object then I would surely commission some of these from the wonderful Randa Fahmy.
Brass and Hand blown glass, aren't they beautiful? I love that translucent light.

Visitor

Look who came to stay today, she was rescued by our gardener.
The children want to name her Freida.
Tomorrow we will buy her a new home.

Crumbling stone houses of Al-Baha

On our last trip to Al-Baha in the mountains of western Saudi Arabia, I took these pictures of the traditional stone village houses. The colour of the stones are beautiful but the homes are deserted and crumbling I would love to restore one as a holiday home to retreat to they have such wonderful character. This room was the first my Mother-in-law lived in as a young bride.

Fountains

photos are of homes in the Ramses Wissa Wassef arts center, Egypt

I would love a fountain inside for the coming summer heat. Listening to the fall of water whilst its coolness plays about us what bliss.
